“…If there’s a stunner in this show, it’s Karen Gunderson’s “Night Mare.” This painting places an impressively full-bodied black horse against a black background. Despite the all-over darkness, it’s easy to distinguish the horse from the background. Gunderson uses clearly visible brush strokes throughout: curving lines to bring out the horse’s anatomical features, rigidly vertical lines for the background. Also, the animal’s body has a glistening quality that would please any brush-wielding groom.”….
